Back from Blogging Hiatus - Filling in the years in between

So I looked at the date of my last post and realise that it has been almost 3 years since I last blogged! What happened there?

I guess life kinda got in the way...and today I was contemplating setting up one of those micro-blogging sites when I figured it might be a better idea to just pick up from where I left off years back. And for a fresh start I thought I'd change the blog look since knowing what I know now about web design, blogs, rss feeds, social media etc....the design was seriously outdated.

It's a bit difficult to squeeze pretty much 3 years worth of happenings into a short post so the condensed version of my life in the last 3 years if anyone is remotely interested:

  • I moved to Auckland and got my first job with Kumfs Shoes, now they're rebranded as Ziera. Got great experience there working with agencies, magazines, fashion shoots etc. Also lost my naivety about product recommendations and reviews in magazines - the magazine staff don't actually write them...we marketing people who advertise in these magazines do. Funny when I think about it, my writings being published in well known magazines like Australian Womens Weekly....
  • I got engaged to Garth. He proposed in 2009 up the Cobb Ridge with a custom designed plat & sapphire ring. We're still engaged with plans to actually have a wedding sometime before I turn 30.

  • I took up circus arts while stumbling upon it when I was thinking of taking ballet classes. Of all the aerial apparatus, I love the silks the most. So I got my own...

  • And seems I was good enough to perform in the Sexy Recession Cabaret, which was a fun experience and I'm glad I didn't get too nervous and fall. That would be a) embarassing in front of an audience b) ruin the show c) be extremely painful and result in broken bones given that we were doing tricks pretty high off the ground with no safety mats below.
  • I changed jobs last year and am now the Marketing Manager of Heritage Tiles. Since I'm the only person in the Marketing Department, it's been great having the freedom to explore and experiment with online marketing. I'm now somewhat skilled in SEO, SEM, online PR and social media.
  • I am also now an active member of the twitter community, building the personal brand of being an online marketer and SEO manager.
Ok so the last 2 points are my automatic marketing/branding reflexes kicking in - oops...but there you have it - the last years in a nutshell.
